Dorothy Shi's personal experience.

Some nights are simply magical - the ones where the energy buzzes a little louder, the people shine a little brighter, and everything just seems to align. That's exactly how I'd describe the evening of the Second Stage Theater gala: a celebration not just of art, but of presence, connection, and those fleeting moments we're lucky enough to capture through a lens.

Walking into the venue, I could feel the excitement in the air. This wasn't just another night on the job-it was a night full of energy, elegance, and stories waiting to be told. And among the many incredible faces in the room, two stood out instantly: Zachary Quinto, known for his iconic portrayal of Spock in Star Trek, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, whose raw performance in The Bear has left a lasting impression on audiences globally.

As a photographer, my goal is never just to take a beautiful picture. I'm always chasing something deeper-a moment of truth, a flicker of emotion, that fleeting second when someone's guard is down and their real self shines through. That's the kind of magic that happened with Zachary and Ebon.

What struck me most about them-beyond their talent and presence-was how grounded and gracious they were. No airs, no ego. Just genuine warmth and openness. They made the job easy, which is something every photographer hopes for but never takes for granted.

When I raised my camera, I wasn't just looking at two celebrities. I saw two artists fully present in the moment, enjoying the evening, connecting with the people around them. There was an ease to their energy, and it translated into every frame I shot. Whether they were mid-conversation, sharing a laugh, or simply standing quietly, their authenticity was effortless and that's exactly what made the photos shine.

Looking through the images afterward, I realized that this night wasn't just about capturing faces. It was about capturing a feeling-the buzz of the gala, the quiet confidence in their expressions, and the subtle beauty of two artists being themselves in a space that celebrated creativity.

It's nights like these that remind me why I love photography. Because at its best, it's not about the flash or the fame-it's about connection. It's about preserving a moment that someone can look back on and feel something.

So yes, this was a highlight of my week. Maybe even my month. It reminded me that when the right people, the right light, and the right moment come together, something truly magical can happen.

And I'm just lucky enough to be there to capture it.

Some evenings are just magical-the ones where everything seems to be in harmony, the people shine a little brighter, and the energy buzzes a little louder. That is precisely how I would characterise the Second Stage Theatre gala evening: a celebration of presence, connection, and those ephemeral moments that we are fortunate enough to document with a camera, in addition to art.

I could feel the excitement igniting as soon as I walked into the venue. This was more than just another work night; it was a night filled with glamour, energy, and untold tales. And two faces immediately jumped out of the room's many amazing ones: Zachary Quinto, who is well-known for playing Spock in Star Trek, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, whose unvarnished, multi-layered portrayal in The Bear has influenced viewers worldwide.

My objective as a photographer is never merely to capture a stunning image. I'm constantly searching for something more profound a flash of emotion, a moment of truth, that brief instant when someone lets their guard down and shows who they truly are. That's the type of magic that occurred between Ebon and Zachary.

Beyond their skill and presence, what really impressed me about them was how polite and grounded they were. No ego, no airs. Just real openness and warmth. They made the work simple, which is something that all photographers aspire to but never take for granted.

I was observing more than just two famous people when I lifted my camera.
